Add chimneys, vents and skylights

Pick Obstacle and draw a rectangle, circle or polygon over a chimney, vent or skylight. Panels keep clear of every obstacle, with the clearance set in Fire setbacks. Selected obstacles can be moved, turned, reshaped or deleted.

A panel can’t sit on a chimney or a skylight, and plumbing vents need room around them. Mark them before you fill the roof, so the layout goes around them.

Draw an obstacle

  1. Pick Obstacle and a shape

Press Obstacle in the tools, then a shape: Rectangle (O), Circle (U) or Polygon (Y).

  2. Draw it on the image

    ShapeHow to draw
RectangleDrag along the roof face. A single click places a 2 ft square.
CircleDrag from the center outward. A single click places a vent pipe.
PolygonClick the corners and click the first one again, or press Enter.
  3. Draw the next one

After each obstacle the editor goes back to Select. Pick Obstacle again for the next.

Change an obstacle

With Select, click the obstacle. Drag it to move it, turn it with the round handle, and use the buttons next to it to make it a rectangle, a circle or a free polygon whose corners move one by one. Delete obstacle or Delete removes it.

Clearance around obstacles

Panels keep the distance set in Fire setbacks (in Panels) under Obstacles — the selected obstacle shows it, for example “clearance 0″”. Set it to the gap your installers leave around vents and chimneys; it switches the rules to Custom.
