Green Button file not accepted
Cali-Graf takes a Green Button file only when it has 12 months of the home’s own hourly usage. The message under the upload says what’s wrong — too short, too many gaps, damaged or edited, or from a meter that already has solar.
Most problems go away when the file is downloaded again from the utility’s website — the last 12 months, XML or CSV — and uploaded as it is, without opening it in Excel. Where to find it: Upload a Green Button file.
Not a full year
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| The file covers … days … 12 months are needed. | Download it again with the last 12 months selected. If the customer hasn’t lived there a year, see Fewer than 12 months of usage. |
| The file is missing … hours of readings — too many gaps; use the bills or the yearly total instead. | The year is there, but the meter skipped more than five days of readings. A new download won’t fill them — enter the bills or a yearly total. |
Can’t be read
The message starts with Could not read this Green Button file: and ends with the reason:
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| the XML in it is damaged | The download was cut off or the file was changed. Download it again. |
| it has no usage readings | The file is empty or holds other data. Download the usage data again. |
| it has no DATE and USAGE (or IMPORT) columns | The CSV was edited or comes from somewhere else. Use the utility’s original file. |
| its dates are not between 2000 and today | The dates in the file are wrong — often after it was opened and saved in a spreadsheet. Download it again. |
| some readings are impossible (over 1,000 kWh in an hour) | The file has readings no home could use — often a sign it was edited. Download it again. |
| some dates or numbers in it can't be read | Same as above — use the original file. |
The home already has solar
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| it shows negative usage — … | The meter counts what the home sends back too, so the file isn’t the home’s full usage. |
| This meter already exports solar power: … | Same reason. Use a yearly total of the home’s full usage or the bills instead — see Use a yearly total. |
