Upload a Green Button file

Green Button is a file with the home’s usage for every hour, downloaded from the utility’s website. Upload it in Usage, under Green Button, and Cali-Graf uses the customer’s real hours instead of an estimate — the most accurate input.

Bills show how much the home used each month. A Green Button file shows when — hour by hour. Under solar billing rules the hour matters, so real hours give the most accurate bill after solar.

Get the file

The customer downloads it from their utility account — or does it with you during the visit:

  • SCE: sce.com → My Account → Data Sharing & Download.
  • LADWP: ladwp.com → My Account → Green Button.

Choose the last 12 months and the XML or CSV format. Upload the file as it is — don’t open and save it in Excel first.

Upload it

  1. Open Usage and pick Green Button

Open Usage and pick Green Button.

  2. Drop the file

Drag the file onto Drop the Green Button file here, or press Choose file.

  3. Check the summary

After Reading the file… you’ll see what’s in it: how many days, how often the meter read the usage, the dates, the kWh for the last 12 months and any missing hours.

What you seeWhat to do
The file covers … days … 12 months are needed. The file is shorter than a year. Download it again with the last 12 months selected. If the customer hasn’t lived there a year, see Fewer than 12 months of usage.
This meter already exports solar power: …The home already has solar, so the file shows only what came from the grid. Use the bills or a yearly total of the home’s full usage.
Could not read this Green Button file: …The file is damaged, edited or in another format. Download it again from the utility and upload it without changes — or use the bills.
