Choose the customer’s SCE rate plan and CARE
For SCE homes, pick the rate plan printed on the customer’s bill — TOU-D-4-9PM, TOU-D-5-8PM, TOU-D-PRIME or Domestic — and tick CARE if the bill has the CARE discount. They set the bill today; the bill with solar is calculated on TOU-D-PRIME.
The same usage costs a different amount on each SCE plan, so the customer’s plan decides what they pay today — and how much solar saves. LADWP homes have no choice to make: Cali-Graf uses LADWP’s standard residential rate.
Set the plan
Find the plan on the bill
The rate plan’s name is printed on the customer’s SCE bill next to the charges, for example TOU-D-4-9PM. A CARE customer also has a CARE discount line.
Pick it in Usage
Open Usage. For SCE homes, Current rate and CARE discount appear above the bills. Pick the plan and tick CARE discount if the bill has it.
The plans
| Plan | In short |
|---|---|
| TOU-D-4-9PM | Time-of-use with the most expensive hours from 4 to 9 PM — SCE’s default plan for most homes. |
| TOU-D-5-8PM | Time-of-use with a shorter, pricier peak from 5 to 8 PM. |
| TOU-D-PRIME | Time-of-use for homes with an electric car, a battery or a heat pump: cheap off-peak hours and a daily charge. Cali-Graf assumes the car charges at night. |
| D (Domestic, tiered) | No time-of-use: the price rises as the home uses more in a month. |
What changes with solar
The plan and CARE set the bill today. New SCE solar customers are billed under the Net Billing Tariff (NEM 3.0) on a time-of-use plan, so Cali-Graf calculates the bill with solar on TOU-D-PRIME: power from the grid at PRIME prices, power sent to the grid at SCE’s export prices for each hour.
