Warnings on the results

Notes under the savings flag what deserves a second look — a system bigger than the home needs, panels that don’t count in the calculation, and bills shown without the city utility tax.

The calculation still runs with these — they’re there so you can fix the design or explain the numbers.

What you seeWhat to do
Solar makes … of what the home uses. The system makes more than the home uses in a year. LADWP never pays out leftover credit, and SCE pays little for surplus power, so the extra panels add cost but almost no savings. The note says about how many panels could go with little loss — remove them in the roof editor.
Bills are shown without the city utility users tax: about … a year today, … with solar. Not a problem — just how the bills are shown. The customer’s city adds a tax to electricity; Cali-Graf shows it separately, today and with solar.
… — fix in the roof editorSome panels in the design sit off every roof face, on a face without a pitch, or on top of another panel. Open the roof editor and move, re-place or delete them. See How the roof gets into the calculation.

When a system bigger than the usage makes sense

Only when the home will use more soon — an electric car, a heat pump. Then add the future usage instead of keeping extra panels: Plan for future usage: EV, heat pump, ADU.
